ULI Westchester/Fairfield held a special, “behind the scenes tour” of the MTA’s East Side Access, the MTA’s largest capital project on October 22, 2018. Once complete, this transformational project will deliver faster commutes, fewer delays, greater reliability, and more options for MTA commuters. This private tour was held for a select group of our Annual Sponsors.
East Side Access provides new Long Island Rail Road service to the east side of Manhattan, supplementing existing service to Penn Station on Manhattan’s west side and Atlantic Terminal in Brooklyn. The East Side Access megaproject is one of the largest transportation infrastructure projects currently underway in the United States with a history that reaches back to the 1950’s when discussions were first held regarding regional transportation planning. The project encompasses work in multiple locations in Manhattan, Queens and the Bronx and includes more than 8 miles of tunneling.
When the project is complete, ESA will enable direct access to a brand-new concourse and terminal on the east side of Manhattan for riders on all 11 branches of LIRR, promising to ease overcrowding and congestion in and around Penn Station and connecting the region like never before.
