Michael Halperin has over 25 years of real estate finance, workout and investment experience, with a focus on distressed and opportunistic real estate transactions throughout the United States and Europe. He is a senior member of Contrarian Capital Management’s real estate team and serves on the real estate investment committee and firm’s valuation committee. At Contrarian, he is responsible for acquisitions and dispositions of distressed/opportunistic real estate and real estate debt, and identifying and managing joint ventures with local operating partners. Contrarian Capital Management is an institutional investment manager with full discretion over its capital. Contrarian invests in real estate assets through private equity real estate funds and forms joint ventures with local and product specific operating partners to source and manage real estate investments. Target equity investments are between $10 to $20 million per transaction. Prior to joining Contrarian Capital Management, Michael was a Senior Vice President at Oaktree Capital Management in both Los Angeles and New York where he was responsible for the acquisition, asset management, and disposition of opportunistic and distressed real estate investments in the United States and Europe. Michael received a B.A. degree in Business-Economics from the University of California at Los Angeles and an MBA from Yale University.
