The Future is Now:

Autonomous Vehicles & Smart Parking Solutions

While autonomous technology isn’t ready for prime time, the tipping point is closer to a three years than a 10 to 15 year time frame, according to Larry Burns, GM’s vice president of R & D and strategic Planning, “We have an opportunity for an all-new automotive DNA based on electric motors and fuel cells. We see 2010 to 2015 as the window for low-volume commercialization. Between 2015 and 2020 is where I think you’ll see the tipping point realized. At that point, the world will have clear evidence that fuel cell and electric vehicles are viable alternatives to internal combustion.”

Autonomous Vehicles are now here and within 25 years 40 per cent of all vehicles on the road will be autonomous cars, according to a study by Accenture. If this time frame makes you feel a bit skeptical, then bear in mind that by the end of this decade the autonomous vehicle market is expected to be worth $87 billion (US).

The authors of the Accenture study anticipate see self-driving cars on our roads within three to five years, with Volvo (2017), Google (between 2017 and 2020) and Mercedes-Benz (2025) expected to pioneer delivery.

At this conference, you will learn from senior policy makers and expert professionals about the consequences of density and how to lower parking ratios, through proven park right models, shared parking arrangements, curb side management plans, and other rapidly evolving techniques. Design professionals will illustrate automated parking garages, how to design traditional structures to retrofit for the future, in fill parking structures, design and engineering streets and public rights of way and other innovative construction approaches.

If you are a public or private planner, engineer, lawyer, local land use decision maker, or concerned citizen you will not want to miss this quickly breaking story.
